Clipper Race - Festival of the Sea - Walking Tours

Our fully insured and professionally trained (Scottish Tour Guide Association) tour guides are ambassadors for Oban. They are extremely knowledgeable about the town, and share fascinating tales of its history, culture and legends as they guide visitors along its scenic esplanade or further afield on the Isle of Kerrera. That's why, this July, to celebrate the first visit of the Clipper Racing Yachts to Oban, our guides will be welcoming crew, family, supporters and spectators to enjoy a series of extra guided walks for the Festival of the Sea programme.

Oban - Guided Town Walking Tours (finish at Dunollie Estate)

From: Oban's North Pier Pontoon gate

Dates: 17th and 18th July - 11am start

Cost: £12 per person

Town Guides will be delivering guided walking tours at 11am on the 17th and 18th July. These tours will explore the town’s history and heritage visiting the town’s two Cathedrals and learning how the Victorian entrepreneurs shaped Oban’s development from a sleeping fishing village to one of Scotland’s most popular visitor destinations.

The tour will finish at Dunollie Estate and we recommend leaving sufficient ‘free time’ to explore the ancient seat of Clan MacDougall with a visit to the Castle for spectacular views and enjoy refreshments in the popular 1745 House museum café before you return to Oban. (Entry fee is not included.) Alternatively, you may opt to return to North Pier via the Witches Wood and Esplanade with your guide.

Tours (maximum 12) start at 11am from North Pier pontoon gate and cost £12 per person. Bookings in advance will allow us to provide sufficient guides. Departure times for multiple groups will be staggered by 10 minutes to avoid congestion on Oban’s narrow pavements.

Guided Kerrera Hike - full day tour

From: Gallanach ferry terminal, Oban (or meet at North Pier Pontoon Gate if without transport)

Date: 19th July

Cost: £40 per person inclusive of Gallanach (Calmac) return ferry

The ‘Kerrera Island hike’ is a full day walking tour of the Isle of Kerrera exploring the ruins of Gylen Castle – an ancient Macdougall stronghold. This tour will start with a ferry from Gallanach to Kerrera.

The route back to Kerrera Marina involves rough hill and coastal paths and suitable footwear is required. There will be an opportunity for refreshments at both Kerrera Tea Rooms before returning to Oban with your guide via the Gallanach ferry. Alternatively, guests may choose to leave the guided walk at this point and take the new tarmacadam road north (it’s the only road on the island so navigation is easy) and walk to the Kerrera Marina for a meal at the Waypoint (booking advised) and return directly to North Pier via the marina’s water taxi service.

Isle of Kerrera guided hike: meet at North Pier pontoons at 9.45am for transport to Gallanach or meet at the Gallanch ferry slip if you are using your own transport. Return to North Pier by 5pm.
